Start your visit with a stroll through the village's historic center, along the lanes and alleys lined with low houses with blue shutters and hollyhocks. At the heart of the village, you'll arrive at the church dedicated to Saint-Étienne, one of the most emblematic monuments on the Ile de Ré. Built in the 15th century, its black-and-white bell tower, 40 m high, was once used by sailors as a sea wall.
Another discovery is the Renaissance house known as the Sénéchal, a residence with watchtowers unique on the Ile de Ré, built around a stone spiral staircase between the 13th and 14th centuries.

The Fier d'Ars bay
Continue on to the Fier d'Ars and its salt marshes, where sauniers harvest sea salt by hand according to an age-old tradition. At low tide, the Fier d'Ars becomes an essential meeting place for lovers of fishing on foot.
If you love cycling, the cycle paths starting from Ars-en-Ré allow you to discover the wild coastline, La Conche beach, the Phare des Baleines lighthouse and the Lilleau des Niges National Nature Reserve, home to thousands of migratory birds.
